It endeavors to analyze, to be sure, but only that some conception of the wholeness of the spiritual life may be seen back of its multiplicity of ex periences. The sermons were preached to that caravan of hearers Which passes, on successive Sunday mornings, before the vision of a preacher in a great city. To teach a comprehensive doctrine under such circumstances is not easy. The demand is for some suggestive allusion, some illuminating phrase, some interpreting principle, that can be caught by the hearer as he passes.
