Nicht lange nach dem ersten Theile dieser Vorlesungen erschien J. Tannery's Introduction ä la théorie des fonc tions d'une variable, ein Werk, dessen erste Hälfte in Plan und Ausführung vielfach mit demselben ubereinstimmt. T an ner y berücksichtigt nur die reellen Zahlen, doch ist die Dar stellung so eingerichtet, dafs man die Verallgemeinerung auf die complexen ohne Mühe vornehmen kann; man hat zumeist nur an Stelle der Worte „valeur absoh1e das Wort module zu setzen. Als Nachtrag zum ersten Theile führe ich aus der Vorrede dieses Werkes die Bemerkung an, dafs der Grundgedanke der von mir Dedekind zugeschriebenen Theo rie der irrationalen Zahlen, welcher Tannery, sowie vor ihm Dini, Pasch, Peano den Vorzug vor der inders auch von ihm vorgeführten Cantor'sehen einräumt, schon von J. Ber trand in seinen Lehrbüchern der Arithmetik und Algebra vorgetragen wurde.
