Synopsis

Excerpt from The Snow-Image, and Other Twice-Told Tales

Wife, and Mr. Bridge has printed several writ ten to himself by Hawthorne, in his volume Personal Recollections of Nathaniel Hawthorne. As we have seen, Bridge did Hawthorne avery good turn in bringing about the publication of the first series of Twice - Told T ales and now when Hawthorne made the last collection he was to make of his short stories and sketches, under the name of The Snow-[mage, and Other twice-told Tales, he dedicated it to his friend, in a letter which is a most agreeable recollection of their college life and of Bridge's faith in him as a writer and of his subsequent aid in finding a publisher for him. This letter, like Greene's to Longfellow, when publishing the life of his grandfather, General Greene, is one of those open confessions of friendship, whicho hints at the deep foundations sometimes laid in the literary life between men whose pursuits are after all quite divergent.
