Podría decirse, indudablemente, que la legalidad de la adquisición de Puerto Rico por los Estados Unidos depende también del título legal que tuviera España sobre nuestra Isla; porque es un principio uni versal 'de derecho que en toda cesión voluntaria, lo mismo de una mera parcela de terreno de unas cuantas hectáreas, que de una isla de millas cuadradas de superficie como la nuestra, el cesionario recibe exactamente el mismo título y los mismos derechos que tenía el cedente sobre el objeto de la ces-ión en el momento de efectuarse el traspaso. El cesionario, en efecto, viene a ocupar el mismo lugar que ocupaba el cedente antes de la cesión respecto de la cosa cedida.
