Excerpt from The Foundations of Faith: Considered in Eight Sermons, Preached Before the University of Oxford, in the Year M. DCCC. LXXIX, at the Lecture Founded by John Bampton M.A. Canon of Salisbury
In the later Lectures the argument requires reference to sources not readily accessible to general readers, such as the writings of some of the chief Fathers of the Church and the earlier Latin works of Luther. The author has consequently endeavoured to consult the convenience of such readers by quoting, in the Notes, passages Of suffi cient length to justify and illustrate his statements; and with the same view he has printed English translations side by side with the original text.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book asserts that faith is the essential principle underpinning human civilization. It is the assurance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Without faith, we cannot organize or advance. Throughout history, leaders like Mahomet and the Buddha have harnessed the power of faith to inspire vast movements and religions that have endured for centuries. This book notes that Christianity, too, has been built on faith in the teachings of Jesus Christ. Despite the rise of science, the author argues that faith remains a vital force needed to guide us through the moral and practical challenges we face. By examining the role of faith in both the Old and New Testaments, and assessing its importance in shaping human societies, this book demonstrates that faith is an enduring and indispensable element of human nature.
