William butler yeats, the eldest son of Mr. J. B. Yeats, the well-known artist, was born at Sandymount, Dublin, on the 13th of June, 1865. His paternal grandfather was William Butler Yeats, m.a., Rector of Tully lish, Co. Down; his maternal grandfather was William Pollexfen, merchant and shipowner, Sligo. At the age of nine he went to London, where his parents then lived, and received his first education at Godolphin School, Hammer smith. His grand parents lived in Sligo, and it is the Sligo country that forms the background of all his early work, both in prose and verse. The town of Ballah, which he writes of in J ohn°sherman, is the town of Sligo a town of grey streets, of narrow roads and mean little shops, full enough in summer of trout and salmon fishers, but sleeping all winter like the bears. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a critical and biographical study of the Irish poet W. B. Yeats, whose distinctive style of poetry was heavily influenced by Irish folklore and mythology. While Yeats was a young man living in London, he became involved in Irish politics and mysticism, and his poetry began to explore the themes of Irish nationalism and the supernatural. The book traces the development of Yeats's work from his early, simple lyrics to his later, more complex and symbolic poems, and examines the major themes that run throughout his work, including the nature of beauty, the role of the artist, and the search for spiritual truth. This critical analysis provides profound insights into the creative process and the evolution of one of the most significant poets of the 20th century, making it an invaluable resource for scholars and general readers alike.
