One journal - and only one - a London weekly, animadverted somewhat severely upon my remarks about the Irish Reserve men of 1882, saying - "Now, if all that is set down here be true, our service, as regards its Irish regiments, must be in a bad way, unless - which is not at all probable - the state of things has marvellously altered in the last twelve years. If, on the other hand, there is exaggeration or extravagance about the language used, then a gallant regiment and a fine body of men have been grossly libelled."
