Synopsis
A beard is the biggest point of pride for a Gnome, but poor Al can't manage to sprout a single whisker. He dreams of competing in the B.I.G. - the Beards International Gnome-athalon - where Gnomes from across the garden compete to win trophies for Longest Beard, Bushiest Beard, and the crowning achievement: Best Beard. When his fake beards fail to fool the Grandmaster of Whiskers, Al is resigned to abandon his dreams and return to pruning the hedges. However, when the other gnomes discover his amazing barber skills, Al becomes the hero of the B.I.G.! He makes the competition more exciting than ever by grooming each gnome's beard into an amazing shape. This silly and sweet story will appeal to readers ages three to seven who love The Day the Crayons Quit and Dragons Love Tacos.

About the Author
Kirsten Mayer has written several books for children, including a New York Times bestseller. She lives in New York City, amidst towers of books and shoes, with two bratty cats and one patient husband. Having grown up with two rowdy older brothers, a vast collection of books and a muddy creek in the backyard, illustrator Laura K. Horton has always had a passion for family, creativity and imagination. Laura earned her BFA in illustration and animation from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. When she's not working, Laura can be found drinking tea, reading, and writing stories. She currently lives in Bountiful, Utah, with her family.
