International Dagger Award shortlisted author of The Murderer in Ruins, Cay Rademacher, delivers a beautifully atmospheric new story with a captivating main character in Murderous Mistral: A Provence Mystery. Capitaine Roger Blanc, an investigator with the anti-corruption-unit of the French Gendarmerie, was a bit too succesfull in his investigations. He finds himself removed from Paris to the south of France, far away from political power. Or so it would seem. The stress is too much for his marriage, and he attempts to manage the break up while trying to settle into his new life in Provence in a 200-year-old, half-ruined house. At the same time, Blanc is tasked with his first murder case: A man with no friends and a lot of enemies, an outsider, was found shot and burned. When a second man dies under suspicious circumstances in the quaint French countryside, the Capitaine from Paris has to dig deep into the hidden, dark undersides of the Provence he never expected to see.

"...a perfect getaway mystery...[a] tightly-plotted whodunit."--The New York Times
"Capitaine Roger Blanc of the French Gendarmerie travels unwillingly from Paris to Southern France to unspool a cunning plot in Cay Rademacher's MURDEROUS MISTRAL. But the reader of this captivating novel will be happy to go with Blanc, for Rademacher has crafted a well-written tale of believable characters, lush scenery, and mouth-watering cuisine to help transport a mesmerized audience to the Provence of the imagination. The piecing together of evidence is expert in this seductive and very French tale, so pour a pastis, sit back, and savor your time with Capitaine Roger Blanc."--G.M. Malliet, award-winning author of the St. Just and Max Tudor mysteries
"Murderous Mistral is as fierce, unsettling, and haunting as the Mistral wind itself. Capitaine Roger Blanc may be a big city cop but his new beat, as charming and intriguing as it seems, turns out to be as deadly as anything he's seen in Paris. The novel bristles with characters whose secrets slowly reveal themselves, and Cay Rademacher draws us into a world that is in equal parts alluring and lethal. A wonderful tale, wonderfully told."--Mark Pryor, author of Hollow Man and the Hugo Marston mysteries
"You'll cheer for Rademacher's trio of misfits in Gadet's tiny gendarmerie in this gripping page-turner, made all the more delightful by a backdrop of a typically hot, windy, and bountiful Provençal summer."--M.L. Longworth, author of the Verlaque and Bonnet mysteries
"Readers will be as captivated by Rademacher's description of Blanc's adjustment to village life as they will by the well-constructed mystery. Highly recommended for fans of international crime fiction, especially Mark Pryor's Hugo Marston series and Peter Morfoot's Paul Darac procedurals."--Booklist (starred review)
"A carefully plotted police procedural that vividly captures the landscape and scents of Provence."--Library Journal (starred review)
"Rademacher writes with quiet authority, methodically filling in pieces of the puzzle and laying a solid foundation for further clever whodunits with a strong supporting cast."--Kirkus Reviews
"Peter Mayle fans will welcome this promising series launch."--Publishers Weekly
