He plunged his head under the water, and catching hold of one of his hind legs we landed him. We now ran on down to the head of the Upper Arrow Lake, and finding the mosquitoes very numerous we camped on a small sandy shoal and proceeded to dry and smoke the bear. At the head of the lake, a short distance to the right of the mouth of the river, I saw a large wooden cross.
