About the Author:
O. S. Marden war ein amerikanischer Hotelbesitzer und Autor, der von 1850 bis 1924 lebte. Nachdem beide Eltern vor seinem 7. Geburtstag starben, verbrachte er mehrere Jahre im Waisenhaus - schaffte es aber trotz widriger Umstände aufs College. Sein Jurastudium schloss er 1871 ab und studierte anschließend Medizin an der Harvard-University, sowie Theologie und erwarb weitere Abschlüsse. Während seiner Studienzeit arbeitete er in der Hotelbranche, bevor er schließlich zum Hotelbesitzer aufstieg. Beeinflusst durch das Buch "Selbsthilfe" des schottischen Autors Samuel Smiles, das ihn schon in seiner Jugend prägte, veröffentlichte er 1894 sein Werk "Pushing to the Front". Mit seinen Büchern und seiner 1897 gegründeten Zeitschrift "Success" erreichte er hundert-tausende Leser in Amerika und Europa. Nicht wenige führten ihren eigenen Erfolg auf deren Lektüre zurück. Zu den Lesern gehörten u. a. Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone und J. P. Morgan. Seine Botschaft, unsere Fähigkeiten und Talente voll zu entfalten, unsere Ziele beharrlich und ausdauernd zu verfolgen und im Berufs- sowie im Privatleben „nach Höherem“ zu streben, hat nichts an ihrer inspirierenden Wirkung verloren.
