Our sinless Saviour, the last evening before He died for our sins, took the last Passover with His disciples, and changed it into the Supper of the Lord. Instead of eating of a lamb, we are now to partake of bread and wine, which He gives, saying to each of us, "Take, eat, this is My body;"--" This is My blood," "Drink ye all of it." Thus we, "the Israel of God," now keep in remembrance our great deliverance which the Passover foreshadowed. That which was dimly foreshadowed in the Passover is now shown forth on earth, and before God in heaven. We on earth adore our Great Deliverer, and the blessed angels the while rejoice in the acceptance in heaven of our sacrifice of thanksgiving. We are thus made partakers of His Body and Blood for the remission of sins, as indeed were God's people of old, who partook of the Paschal Lamb (1 Cor. x. 3). If the Israelites of old were bound to keep their Passover feast, still more are we bound to keep our Christian feast. Verses 15--20. The unleavened bread had a hidden meaning too, a meaning for us beyond what it had to them. "Christ our Passover is-sacrificed for us: therefore let us keep the feast; not with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth" (1 Cor. v. 7, 8). Verses 21--28. In obedience to this command, Jewish children at twelve years old were always taken to see what was done at the Passover, that they might ask and be instructed in the meaning of it.
