This is a book of Christian fiction based on the history of the conversion to Christianity by the Apostle Paul of an aristocratic maiden in Iconium. (in modern Turkey) and her later martrydom. Believing she was meant to serve the Lord with her whole being, Thekla spurned a marriage arranged by her ambitious mother, which led to their estrangement. Already in trouble with the civil authorities, the beautiful Thekla repulsed the advances of one Alexander, a pagan priest, which resulted in her being sent to death in the public arena to be torn apart by wild beasts. Her remarkable deliverance strengthens her faith and she goes forth to a work dedicated to spreading the gospel and good works, living a long and useful life until her eventual martyrdom.
