A small cat on a doomed ship sets out to save the New World. In 1609, Salt was a scruffy, white alley cat looking for a new life. When he hears that the Sea Venture is sailing to the New World, he knows this is his chance. Life on the Sea Venture is not what he expected. The other cats all want him to walk the plank. But he keeps all four paws on deck until a Tempest threatens to sink the ship. The passengers labor for days to keep the ship afloat and Salt expects the ship to sink at any moment. Luckily they wreck off the island of Bermuda. The island holds many new adventures, but Salt wants to get to the New World, so when the humans build two more boats, he joins them. They make it to the New World, but find a horror there that none of them expected. Salt and the Sea Venture is Juvenile Historical Fiction, written for ages 8-12. It also includes a non-fiction section. Facts are provided about the historical figures, the workings of 17th century sailing ships, the society of the time, and the flora and fauna they encountered.
