These are the first English language translations published in America of the works of Fabrice Melquiot, one of the most imaginative, prolific, and influential French playwrights working today. We are thrilled to introduce you to this unique voice in world theater with this volume containing works for both adults and youth. "The Devil on All Sides" is a stunning work about the ravages of war in ex-Yugoslavia. Full of love, sadness, and humor, the French Drama Syndicate awarded it "Best French Language Play of the Year" in 2001. "The Unheard of World" and "Albatross" are both plays for "all ages," fantastical tales of love, loss, and discovery. All are rich with immense theatrical possibilities. Translated from the French by Ben Yalom and Michelle Haner.

About the Author:
Fabrice Melquiot is a playwright, poet, novelist, and director. He began his career as an actor with Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota and the Theatre de Millefontaines. At the same time, he began writing. The majority of his works are published by l’Arche, including “The Devil on All Sides” and “Kids” (2002), and more than 50 other plays. “The Devil on All Sides” was named “Theatrical discovery of the year” by the French National Critics’ Union. Two plays, “Perlino Comment” and “Bouli Miro”, inaugurated l’Arche’s theater for youth series, in which both “The Unheard of World” and “Albatross” are published. “Bouli Miro” was also the first play for youth produced by the Comédie-Française. His plays have been translated into a dozen languages, and have been performing in numerous countries, including Germany, Greece, Mexico, Chile, Spain, Italy, Japan, Russia, and more. FoolsFURY’s production of “The Devil on All Sides” (2006) was the first American production of his work. In 2008 he received the Académie Française’s Prix Théâtre for his collected works. Since 2012 Fabrice Melquiot has been director of Am Stam Gram in Geneva, an international center of theater for children and youth.
