A year ago, Katy Bergren faced a terrifying enemy with colossal power and walked away from the battle—but not without painful losses. Now that same enemy covets an ancient, and supposedly mythical, book that contains unimaginable secrets—and Katy's foe will do anything, even kill, to get it. With time running out, Katy and her husband Rick must plunge headlong into a booby-trapped hunt for a book that may not even exist, before their enemies tear the world apart to find it.

Lord of the Dead, Book Two in the Human Origins Series, launches Katy and Rick on a continuation of their quest for the truth about human origins, this time through the pages of the enigmatic Book of Thoth. The story affords readers a chance to explore the real debate between Egyptologists, who believe the Book of Thoth contained scientific knowledge largely reproduced elsewhere, and New Age enthusiasts, who assert the book held magical power and wisdom. The Planners up the ante by threatening to kill Rick's father, their hostage, if Katy and Rick fail to find the Book. The Planners can't find the Book themselves, for they have erased their own history -which holds the key to locating the Book -in their zeal to cover up the truth about human origins. Katy and Rick's quest draws them from Michigan to the remote deserts of Egypt as they battle an old enemy and join forces with a mysterious woman who knows more than she should about ancient history. As Katy and Rick unearth the tomb of a god, they realize their mission has expanded beyond just saving Rick's father. Now, they must save the human race itself from annihilation.Once again, this imaginative series blends author Shiel's in-depth knowledge of archaeology, anthropology and alternative history into an entertaining and fast-paced tale of mystery, UFOs, Bigfoot, murder and mayhem. "'Lord of the Dead' skillfully immerses the reader in the strange and murky worlds of human origins, archaeological secrecy, and ancient cultures. With believable characters, a fast-paced plot, and a fantastic premise at its heart, Lisa A. Shiel's book is one not to be missed by anyone with an interest in the mysteries of this world and beyond." --Nick Redfern, author of 'Body Snatchers in the Desert'
