About the Author:
MAGNUS CARTER has an international reputation for media and crisis communications consultancy and training. He began his journalistic career with a news agency based in North East England where he provided stories for most national newspapers, later completing his National Council for the Training of Journalists diploma at the Evening Chronicle and Journal in Newcastle upon Tyne. His subsequent broadcasting career began with one of the first commercial radio stations, Radio Forth in Edinburgh, followed by the BBC s Radio 4 Today programme. He also worked as Intake Editor for the leading broadcast news agency, Independent Radio News, and later, as Group Head of News with GWR Radio. Thames TV and TV-AM introduced him to Television news broadcasting. Magnus was a senior lecturer for five years on the University of West of England s postgraduate diploma course in Broadcast Journalism. In 1998, he cofounded Mentor Communications Consultancy in Bristol, advising clients on a range of personal communication skills including Handling the Media. He is an associate consultant at Bristol Business School, a visiting lecturer at Ashridge Business School and a member, accredited practitioner and approved trainer for the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
