Dam Busters Failed to Return On 16/17 May 1943 a select group of Bomber Command airmen carried out one of the most audacious and daring low level attacks of WW2 - the Dam Busters raid. Eight Lancasters failed to return, 53 men were killed and 3 captured. Bomber Command historians recount the lives of some of the Dam Busters who were lost that fateful night - 70 years ago.
