It is the first major contribution to the understanding of the growth and occupation of an area from the Neolithic period to almost the present day. It reflects upon pre-historic times, the Roman occupation a valued interpretation of Domesday when Penkhull was one of the wealthiest farming communities in the area. In great depth it studies and uses the Manor Court Rolls from the mid-13th century until that of the 20th. All this in addition to the social implications of the industrial revolution from the 17th century to that of the Parish Workhouse and the institutional care of children in Penkhull Cottages Homes. The whole contents of the book are researched for the first time and present a new insight to this part of Staffordshire never previously written about.
