As our climate changes, summer droughts are becoming increasingly common. Water is no longer something we can take for granted, even in Britain. Meanwhile, global environmental issues mean that there is also a moral imperative to use water wisely. This book introduces the different aspects of water use and water conservation in the garden, showing you both how to use less water and how to save more. Waterwise garden design, water-efficient gardening techniques, rainwater harvesting and household water recycling will add up to give you a garden that is largely independent of mains water - which is also more attractive, productive and beneficial to wildlife.

Review:
This comprehensive and extremely user-friendly little book deals in a very practical way with the global and moral issues of using water wisely from an author and writer with extensive experience of organic gardening and sustainable land use projects around the world. Kitchen Garden, November 2011 'Once again Michael Littlewood has produced a bible for environmentally aware gardeners the detailed information in this book covers all aspects of the topic. His style is informative, without being too technical, with easily-interpreted diagrams and beautiful pictures to illustrate the sometimes complex topics he is describing. Bryony Huntley, Smallholder Michael Littlewood After a summer like 2011, when parts of the UK nearly drowned and others dried to a crisp, this books publication is particularly well-timed. Giving full and clear details of how to conserve water in all types of ways throughout your garden, as well as dealing with the problems caused by too much rain, its a convenient easy to read reference. The crisp line drawings illustrate precisely how to retain and purify recycled water, as well as more usual water saving techniques, while the text covers a very wide range of water conservation methods as well as useful plant lists and suppliers. - Sally Cunningham Horticultural Consultant The person to ask about plants September 2011 Once again Michael Littlewood has produced a bible for environmentally aware gardeners. His new Waterwise Gardening book is a comprehensive guide which explains how we should all be using water as the precious resource it is. Michaels wise advice is contained in his concluding chapter small actions, multiplied by millions of people, can and do make a difference. Let us hope that many, many people will use this book to make a real difference. - Bryony Huntley Organic Smallholder November 2011 The author clearly demonstrates what can be done on the smallest residential properties, but also how these techniques can be applied in larger applications. Besides being a simple and concise book about using water in a more conscious way, the real value of this book is the impact that taking these steps can have on our planet. I believe A Guide to Waterwise Gardening will demystify the notion of water and gently remind us of the significance of this precious resource. - Samuel L Salsbury, FAPLD Landscape Designer October 2011 For more information, Michael Littlewood's illustrated article explains the basic principles of his book on Waterwise Gardening - use the link below to read it.
