The first comprehensive guide to the whales, dolphins and
porpoises of Great Britain. Section one introduces the 17 most commonly
sighted species of cetacean, giving details on identification, behaviour,
distribution and recommended hotspots to see them. Each species account is
accompanied by a photographic plate depicting animals as they are seen at
the surface. The bulk of the book describes where to see cetaceans around
Great Britain - from land, from whale and dolphin watching boats, and from
ferries. The text gives every detail a reader would need to book a trip,
from which species are likely when, to how to get there and what
photographic opportunities are available. The result is a must-have guide
for anybody with an interest in cetaceans and whale and dolphin watching.
This book will also appeal to people who had no idea that they could go
whale watching from our shores, by bringing together a wealth of
information on the many and varied options available in one concise guide.

From the Publisher:
Britain's whale and dolphin watching industry now extends to almost every
part of the country, and is very much part of mainstream tourism. Tens of
thousands of people go whale and dolphin watching in British waters every
year, utilising commercial operators, ferries and land-based viewpoints.
This guide will appeal to general tourists as well as keen whale watchers
and naturalists, encouraging more people than ever before to go whale and
dolphin watching in Britain.
About the Author:
Dylan Walker was travelling onboard a ferry in Scotland when a friendly
Minke Whale circled the boat to the delight of everybody onboard. Like many
people who have been lucky enough to encounter whales and dolphins in
Britain, it was a life-changing experience. Since then, Dylan has dedicated
his career to these animals. His focus has been on encouraging other people
to share in the wonders of watching and studying cetaceans. Dylan is a
co-founder of the marine charity Organisation Cetacea (ORCA), and has
written and produced two groundbreaking field guides: `Whales and Dolphins
of the European Atlantic' and `Whales and Dolphins of the North American
Pacific', as well as a range of scientific papers and articles.

Alex Wilson has had an interest in whales and dolphins since he was a
child. He has been actively involved in their conservation since 1999, when
he first became involved in such exotic conservation efforts as the Oceania
Project's humpback research in Australia, and the Centre for Dolphin
Studies' bottlenose dolphin research in South Africa. Alex has worked
extensively in sales and marketing, and is now joint Managing Director of
an independent advertising agency. An accomplished designer, he was
formerly art editor and a contributor to The Marine Connection's Seventh
Wave magazine and The ORCA Report no.'s 2 and 3 In 2006 he edited the
launch issue of ORCA's on-line magazine Flukeprints also serving as a
committee member and trustee for charity.

Dylan and Alex formed Cetacea Publishing in 2006.
