Billy Blagg (aka Peter Thorne) is well known as the outspoken columnist for the leading unofficial West Ham internet site - www westhamonline.net. His no-nonsense, contradictory, often knee-jerk reaction, to each traumatic event in the life of a Hammers fan provokes widespread debate and comment among hundreds of supporters who retaliate (or agree!) via the internet message boards that are full of vitriol and invective! Blagg gets stuck into all the major issues that have occupied, and troubled, the minds of long-suffering West Ham for years. From being unceremoniously thrown out of the League Cup for fielding an ineligible player, to the sacking of managers Harry Redknapp and Glenn Roeder. From relegation and the sale of their best players, right up to the debacle of losing last season's Play-off final, it's all painfully described here by Blagg. His summary of the most contentious issues in Hammers' recent history is supported with comments (originally made online) from fellow irate fans who share his dismay at the continuing decline of this once great East London club that spawned three World Cup-winning heroes.

Review:
A humorous and thought-provoking must read for anyone interested in football. -- Recorder Group Newspapers - December 2004
From the Author:
'Nightmare On Green Street' follows the ill fortune of West Ham United FC from their days in 1999 as european contenders, through the full horror of their relegation from the Premiership after selling all their best players and sacking their manager, right up until their abject failure in the 2004 1st Division play-off's. The book is written using columns from Billy Blagg offset with fan comments made online at the time together with updates of the situation seen in retrospect. This is primarily a book for West Ham fans, but is also aimed at football fans in general as it shows the true charachter of the average football supporter as they try to make sense of what is happening to the club which they love and invest large amounts of time and expense following, only to be thwarted by players and managers who move on to other clubs and administrators who seem unaccountable and out of touch. Eventually, only the long-suffering supporter is left.
