Walking with Charlie is a history of the Jacobite Rising of 1745 with a difference. Mostly on foot Steve Lord has followed the journey of Bonnie Prince Charlie's army from the north-west of Scotland to Derby, north again to the battlefield at Culloden and over the sea to Skye. All the major and most of the minor Jacobite sites are described. These include Prestonpans, Falkirk and Culloden and the great houses where the Prince stayed. Steve recounts his trips to tiny uninhabited Scottish islands and almost inaccessible glens. Flora MacDonald was significant in the Prince’s escape to Skye and Steve describes his visits to places on Skye and the Outer Hebrides that are connected with the story.
