"A Numismatic Journey through the Bible" is an attempt to bring the Bible to life in a new sort of way - by linking as many Biblical stories as possible to coins, many of which are common enough for us to be able to see, and often to actually own. In this way the author hopes to put readers in touch with events that, though they happened a long time ago, can still have great meaning for us today. The chapters are written in Biblical order. The Old Testament first, working through to the Book of Revelation at the end. Other material, relevant but not actually part of the Bible, is included in chapters between those dealing directly with the Bible itself. Each coin is illustrated with approximate values given in GBGBP and US$ and the book is packed with a wealth of background information about the Bible, in an easy to read style suitable for all ages.

Richard Plant did his national service in the Royal Artillery, serving in the Middle East (Egypt and Tripolitania). He is a graduate of both Oxford and Cambridge Universities. He read "Mods and Greats" (which is Latin, Greek, Ancient History and Philosophy) at Jesus College, Oxford; and then went on to study the Theology Tripos (including Hebrew) at Wesley House Cambridge - after which he became, and still is, a Methodist minister. His first book was "Arabic Coins and how to read them", published in England by Seaby in 1973, which was awarded the Lhotka Memorial Prize in 1975 by the Royal Numismatic Society. In 1979 his "Greek, Semitic Asiatic Coins and how to read them" was published by Scorpion Press in the USA. Also in 1979, Seaby published "Greek coin types and their identification". In recent years Richard has become a regular contributor to Rotographic International and at the time of writing also has "Roman Base Metal Coins - A Price Guide" and "Roman Silver Coins - A Price Guide" in print (ISBN 0948964-47-2 and 0948964-71-5 respectively).
