(An exploratory essay by the West of Ireland's cartographer, in which he reflects on the nature and practice of his art, and provides a foretaste of work in progress.
Tim Robinson was born in England in 1935 and raised in Yorkshire. He studied mathematics at Cambridge, taught abroad, and began his career as an artist in London. In 1972 he moved to the Aran Islands to write and to make maps of Aran (2nd ed. 1982) and the Burren, Co. Clare (1977).
