From the Author:
A panoramic view of how ideas move from one mind to another.
Communication is the most vital skill. People who communicate better earn more money and better enjoy the company of their families and friends. Most conflicts result from poor communication. How We Communicate is a vast panorama of ways that ideas move from one mind to another. It begins with the earliest history of communication. It continues with language, showing why English is so rich and versatile that it is used all over the world in business, aviation, amateur radio, etc. It goes on to face-to-face communication and explains why, if the message you want to convey is important, you'd better be sure your sending the same message using all available channels. From there it goes into business communication systems. That section is a little dated ten years later, although some of the basics it covers, such as ability to cancel messages that are overtaken by events, are not even part of the Internet today. It also explains which messages are best suited for e-mail, voice mail, etc. It then heads into the deep water of communication with other species, communication with extraterrestrials, and prayer as communication with God (very respectfully addressed). It concludes with speculations as to how communication will evolve into the far future.
