The steamer Triumph, built for McIntyre & Co, was leased to Shaw Savill and the NZ Shipping Company after a few years service, fitted out with refrigeration equipment for the meat trade and came to NZ carrying migrants arriving in Auckland in September 1883. It ran aground on Tiritiri Matangi island below the lighthouse leading to Auckland Harbour, and was against all odds refloated. CONDITION Blue bds (clean, top front cnr slightly crushed o/w unworn) 142 pages with b/w photo plates and other reproduced reproduced newspaper advertising with extensive appendices.
