In the spring issue of 1930 the fashionable glossy magazines of London, Paris and New York were filled with the most exciting collections of feminine haute couture seen for many years. The hard, crisp, shiny, chic era of the fashionable woman of the 1920s, with her Eton crop and short skirt, was over, and a silent revolution directed against the severe angularities of modernist design had taken place amongst the courturiers, designers, stylists and their smart clientele. Straight lines were replaced by curves, and dresses, now composed of soft draperies, flowed gracefully from beautifully tied bows over the lissom contours of the body. No longer did the dry linearity of cut make women's figures appear boyish and immature. This development was reflected in fashion accessories as well as in the dresses themselves. Complexions became young and pretty, without eccentricities of make-up, while hair began to be softly waxed and loosely curled....
