Larsen, who taught preaching at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School outside Chicago for 30 years, offers an apologetic for the narrative sermon. He points out that since 77 percent of the Old Testament and major chunks of the New Testament are storiesocomplete with plot, tension, and resolutionolearning how to tell a good story is necessary if preachers are to remain true to Scripture. And there are rules for telling good stories. For example, handling introductions is particularly critical, and transitions also are important. An even more crucial skill is the ability to correctly select what to include and what to omit.
