About the Author:
Mary Alice Fontenot is best known as the childrens author of books on Cajun culture. She created the famous wetland characters of Clovis Crawfish and his friends more than thirty years ago. In addition to the Clovis Crawfish Series, Fontenot wrote several other childrens books, including Mardi Gras in the Country and The Star Seed, both published by Pelican. Fontenot worked as a kindergarten teacher and, for thirty-five years, as a newspaperwoman. Her dedication to children and to her art earned her the 1998 Acadiana Arts Council Lifetime Achievement Award. She died in 2003 at the age of ninety-three. Scott R. Blazek resides in Clovis, New Mexico, where he is a Lutheran minister and an award-winning freelance artist. He was awarded a $2,500 prize from the U.S. Mint for designing a five-dollar gold coin featuring James Madison for their Bill of Rights Commemorative Coins set.
From the Inside Flap:

It is late summer on the Louisiana bayou where Clovis Crawfish and his friends live. It is the season for Bertile and all the other monarch butterflies to fly south for the winter.

In order to wish Bertile bon voyage, the friends decide to throw her a party--and everyone is invited! Clovis, Christophe Cricket, Rene Rainfrog, Maurice Mosquito Hawk, Fernand Frog, the Cigale twins, Etienne Escargot, Gaston Grasshopper, Josette June Bug, Lizette Lizard, Andrew Armadillo, Henri Hibou, Corinne Crapaud, Suzanne Squirrel, and all the rest of the bayou critters come to wish Bertile a safe journey south.

Suddenly, the wind changes direction, causing a pine cone to come crashing down from a tree above, pinning Bertile Butterfly's beautiful wing to the ground. All of her butterfly dust is scattered over the grass of the bayou bank. The friends must quickly band together to save Bertile and get her on her way.

The eleventh book in the Clovis Crawfish Series, Clovis Crawfish and Bertile's Bon Voyage is a delightful story of life on the bayou. The crea-tures interact with each other in their natural environment while offering children valuable lessons on important concepts such as friendship, teamwork, and problem solving.

Mary Alice Fontenot is the creator of Clovis Crawfish and the author of all eighteen books chronicling his adventures. For thirty-five years she worked as a journalist and kindergarten teacher in Louisiana's Cajun country. Her dedication to children and to her art earned her the 1998 Acadiana Arts Council Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2003, she was named a Louisiana Legend by Louisiana Public Broadcasting and a Living Legend by the Acadian Museum of Erath, a program that recognizes individuals who help shape Cajun culture. The self-proclaimed "half-Cajun" died in May 2003.

Illustrator Scott Blazek lives in New Mexico, where he is a Lutheran minister and freelance artist who has won numerous awards for his posters. He is also the illustrator of several volumes in the Clovis Crawfish Series, including: Clovis Crawfish and Batiste Bete Puante, Clovis Crawfish and Bidon Box Turtle, Clovis Crawfish and the Big Betail, Clovis Crawfish and Etienne Escargot, Clovis Crawfish and Fedora Field Mouse, Clovis Crawfish and Michelle Mantis, Clovis Crawfish and Paillasse Poule d'Eau, and Clovis Crawfish and Simeon Suce-Fleur.
