Anxiety disorders in the USA are thought to affect 8% of the population in a given six month period. In this book the editors have assembled a guide to the implications of new scientific findings about basic neurobiological processes and more clinically relevant empirical advances. They emphasize the panic syndromes, generalized anxiety and phobia, and pay special attention to the relationship of masked anxiety to such syndromes as pseudo angina, hyperventilation, irritable bowel, and caffeine and alcohol abuse. Finally, they consider a variety of treatment approaches.
