The American media has been saturated with material on Jackie Chan. Unfortunately, it's usually the same material written a different way. I wanted to bring something different to this book so I went to the people behind the films. Jackie Chan: Inside the Dragon is the only Jackie Chan book to contain a plethora of new interview material from Jackie Chan himself, Stanley Tong, Edward Tang (the man who has written over 80% of Chan's films as well as served as assistant director), Chua Lam (producer of several Chan films), Sammo Hung (Chan's longtime friend and director), Whang Inn-sik (hapkido master who fights Chan in Young Master and Dragon Lord) and Benny Urquidez (kickboxer who fights Chan in Wheels on Meals and Dragons Forever) just to name a few. I also worked very hard to give fans a lot of new pictures including on-set shots, storyboards, foreign film posters and more. The most important facet about this book is the fact that I retain Chan's identity as a Hong Kong director/actor/stuntman. I translate Chan's movie theme songs and portions of the script from Chan's newest film Mr. Nice Guy and I include Chinese characters for the people and films I discuss in the book. I did this because most of the films I discuss can not be found at your local videostore. You have to hunt for them in little Chinatown videostores tucked away at the bottom of some dusty shelf. I also give readers an inside look at Chan's stunts, fight sequences and action directing. This is what separates Chan from everyone else on the planet. In my interview with Edward Tang, I was able to reveal the origination of the Jackie Chan character as well as unfold the truth behind his famous clocktower homage to Harold Lloyd in Project A. I am proud to finally give Jackie Chan fans what they have been wanting all along.
