Ferdinand Anton Porshce was undoubtedly one of the most influential engineers of this century. His acheivments include the fabulous SS Mercedes and the Volkswagen Beetle. But he is best remembered by the thoroughbred sportscars which bear his name. In its present form the Porshce company had an inauspicious beginning in postwar Europe. Ferdinand Porshce was imprisoned by the French until 1947 and production began in a sawmill in Gmund, Austria. The Professor died in 1951 and it was his son 'Ferry' and daughter Louise Piech and their children who built and developed the company until reorganisation in 1971. The book tells the Porshce story on road and track with technical details and personal histories. The colour phototgraphs have been specially taken in England and America and show many classic and rare road cars and sports racers. Also included are previously unpublished photographs from the Porsche family archives, makeing this book which will delight all Porscheophiles and classic marque enthusiasts.
