Book Description Condition: Gut. 203 S.; 20 cm; kart. Gutes Ex. - Englisch. - The Argentinian sociologist Ernesto Laclau develops a highly novel approach to major problems of capitalism, fascism and populism in Politics and Ideology in Marxist Theory. The first essay in the book, a polemic against Andre Gunder Frank, argues decisively against the notion that mere market relations constitute in any sense an index of the presence of capitalism in Latin America or any underdeveloped regions of the world. In his second essay, Laclau reviews the structures of the bourgeois state in the developed capitalist countries, as an autonomous political institution - assessing and criticising the contribution of Miliband and Poulantzas to its analysis. A third long essay advances a comprehensive re-theorization of fascism in Europe. Laclau contends that Marxists have till now always tended to neglect or minimize the specific nature and mechanisms of the ideological appeal of fascism, because of a tendency towards 'class reductionism'. He seeks to remedy the deficiency by an audacious and sophisticated use of Althusser's notion of'ideological interpellations'. Finally, reverting again to problems of Latin America, the book concludes by applying the categories and theses of its analysis of fascism to the very different phenomenon of populism in Argentina and Brazil. Laclau's work represents a rare example of intellectual fusion between Western theory and Latin American experience. (Verlagstext) ISBN 0860917142 Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 550.
