Synopsis

Marilyn Manson is more than a mere musician - he is a rock phenomenon. He has created a phantasmal world of freaks that has proved irresistible to a whole generation of disaffected youth, and generated unprecedented controversy and protests from conservative and Christian organisations. In Dissecting Marilyn Manson, Baddeley performs a cultural autopsy upon Manson, examining the seminal influences and psychotic sources that have gone into making him the fascinating Frankenstein monster that he is today. With its heavily visual approach, the text and pictures help to create the impression of a pathological scrapbook, emphasising the idea that the performer being put under the knife, reflecting the Manson mythos and exploring it in an irreverent but reliable manner. Each chapter exposes one gruesome angle after another, gradually revealing just what makes Marilyn Manson tick and just why so many find him so compelling. Dissecting Marilyn Manson offers the legion of dedicated Manson fans an alternative look into his macabre and twisted world. Gavin Baddeley is one of the world's leading experts on Satanism and has worked for many of the leading rock magazines.

Baddeley is, like Marilyn Manson, a priest of the Church of Satan. Both Manson and Baddeley have received Honorary Priesthoods, only awarded to those who Anton LaVey, Church of Satan founder, considered pivotal in the Church of Satan's development: Baddeley for his journalistic work, and Manson for his work as a performer. Baddeley has written for numerous wellknown general publications, and specialises in true crime and macabre media.
