Hardback. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. RARE CARPETS From East and West. Introduction by Mercedes Viale Ferrero. Orbis Books, London. 1972 First edition ISBN 0856131121 80pp Illustrated Hardback. This copy measuring 31cms Tall x 23cms Wide is in fine unmarked condition, the unclipped dust wrapper is in very good plus condition. The best examples of handmade carpets rank among the finest of man's artistic creations. This book traces the origins of carpet making and outlines the various techniques employed. It explains how it was that between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries the craft was raised to an art, and spread from the Orient to Europe. But the European masters never surpassed, and probably never equalled, their Eastern rivals, and it is on the great Oriental carpets that the book concentrates. Its outstanding feature is the superb colour photographs, which will be equally compelling for the expert, the enthusiast and the uninitiated. Ref JJ1. Seller Inventory # 012071
