Shelfwear evident to the lower edges of the book and there is bumping to the head and to the heel of the spine. The usual Browning to the paper edges, that is found on this edition. Some handling marks internally. Illustrated dustwrapper, by Matthew Davidson, with lilac and white writing on the front panel and spine. Very minor wear to the dustwrapper edges. In 1629 the Dutch ship "Batavia" was wrecked off the coast of Western Australia. When the survivors were picked up, over 120 men and women had been murdered by their fellow survivors. Two of the murderers were left on the hostile land as punishment. "were they taken by the sea, or swallowed up by that strange and hostile land?
