Towing a horse trailer is not something to be taken lightly, but neither should it be offputting. This text explains how to buy and use a trailer safely and within the law, covering all the topics a responsible horse owner needs to know, supported by photographs and diagrams. The book examines all aspects of trailer use and ownership, including choosing a trailer and tow car, maintenance, safe driving practice and the law. The newcomers' nightmares of hitching up and reversing are explained in an illustrated step-by-step section. Safety and the importance of driving with the horse in mind are stressed throughout and there are also sections on travelling wear for horses and how to handle difficult loaders.

From the Author:
This book is a guide to towing safely
For horse owners, unlike caravanners, towing is not part of the hobby so far too many take on trailer towing without proper regard to issues that affect their own safety as well as that of other road users and the horses being transported. My aim in this cheap, but comprehensive, book is to explain all you need to know in a way that is easy to understand. If you follow the guidelines in this book, you will be able to transport your horse safely and with due regard for its comfort. The legal requirements for towing are also covered, including the driving licence regulation changes that affect drivers who have passed their driving tests since 1997. Ifor Williams, Britains largest trailer manufacturer, thought this book was good enough to issue a free copy with every new horse trailer they sell. I am a horse owning motoring journalist and have written on towing for Land Rover Owner, Horse and Hound, Eventing, Horse, Horse Exchange, Your Horse, Horse and Rider and Practical Caravan.
