Hugh Montgomery-Massingberd is instigator and editor of an index covering some ten thousand country houses in Great Britain. He has published numerous books including Family Seats, Great British Families, and Royal Palaces of Europe. He is also a regular contributor to The Field, The Spectator, and Town and Country among other magazines.

Christopher Simon Sykes specializes in the photography of architecture and interiors, and has written a number of books including Private Palaces, Country House Camera, and Ancient English Houses. His photographs have appeared in many periodicals including Vogue, Vanity Fair, The World of Interiors, and House and Garden.
