About the Author:

DR MARY CUNNINGHAM is a Byzantine and Patristics scholar and part-time lecturer at the University of Birmingham. She also tutors at the Cambridge Institute for Orthodox Christian Studies. The author of The Life of Michael the Synkellos (Belfast Byzantine Enterprises) and co-editor of Mount Athos and the Byzantine Monasticism (Variorum), she has also contributed a chapter to A World History of Christianity (Mowbray).
