The above comment that the book I Married Wyatt Earp is a hoax or is fiction is part of a long series of partisan attacks by a small cabal that resents the fact that I have not made my confidential sources available to other researchers and don't intend to until I have fully utilized them. (I placed them in the Special Collections of the Univ. or Arizona shortly after the book I Married Wyatt Earp was published, but they dawdled for years and didn't catalog them, so that I took them back, and it subsequently occurred to me to keep them confidential because that enhances both their value to collectors - and I have a right to profit by my diligence in research - and also makes more attractive to publishers any future manuscripts I may base on them.)

The full story of this will appear in a book soon to be released by Historical Research Associates, Inc. of Rodeo, NM 88056, entitled The Earp Curse.

The notion that I Married Wyatt Earp is a hoax or that I have "admitted or confessed" to the allegation that it is a hoax, is typical smear language convenient for the media when they wish to misconstrue the truth. For example, if I were to say my name is Glenn G. Boyer, the smear tactic would be to say I either "admitted" or "confessed" that was my name, as though it were beaten out of me with the famous rubber hose.

I did write and have published a classic literary hoax in a different context years ago before I had written about the Earps and it will be recognized some day as a great historical hoax in the tradition of Mark Twain, and he would have loved it.

A major problem of my detractors, as above, is they have little or no sense of humor and therefore can't take the ribbings I have given them for being what I term Earpomaniacs, based on the apparent fact that they live, eat, breathe and sleep with Wyatt Earp on their brains.

As for the great hoax in the Mark Twain tradition, it is Illustrated Life of Doc Holliday, written in 1966 as a Gaslight Theatre Melodrama with touches of satire added to pan the superficial Doc Holliday biographies of that day. It is a little paperback book, which sold as a rare collectors' item for up to $250.00 until I recently found a slightly damaged trove of them and am selling them for $50.00. It has proven wonderfully useful to those who wish to characterize me exclusively as a hoaxer and they have succeeded with the ignorant, who in this case, are vast majority who do not suspect they are being misled for partisan purposes.

Readers of this who are interested in contacting me for further information about this hilarious controversy or about getting copies of any of the material cited, may do so of truth in the allegation that I have stated at any time in any forum that I Married Wyatt Earp is a hoax. Nor is it fiction. If the publications that have alleged this do not correct the record they will have to suffer the consequences. Most likely they will consist of simply looking dumb in perpetuity, since I intend to refresh the record by reminding the public, as above, whenever necessary.

I might add that the "alleged" casual reader whose "review" appears above, who projects the image of just strolling in on this book, and who became so public spirited that he or she checked into its authenticity is overpaying their hand. This is undoubtedly one of the cabal I mentioned.
