Description of the book
This new interpretation of the resurrection story breaks with the classical understanding of the Gospel of Mark. Building on pre-70 Petrine and Pauline traditions, Mark revised an earlier pre-70 Passover Haggadah as faith's response to the destruction of the Temple (70 C.E.). The narrative is a midrash on LXX Isaiah 22:16; 33:16 (Claude Montefiore). A "tomb hewn from the Rock" (Mk 15:46 = LXX Isa 22:16) refers to the temple that is to be destroyed. The author attempts to uncover the roots of a later anti-Judaic interpretation.
