It's springtime in Detroit and Detective Sergeant "Fang" Mulheisen has settled in for a period of repose - he thinks. What happened to Jimmy Hoffa?
The most famous crime in Detroit history happens to be one of the great American mysteries: What happened to Jimmy Hoffa? In writing about that I took the opportunity to resurrect a character I'd killed off in an earlier book. If I was going to dig up Jimmy Hoffa, why not dig up my furious old detective, Grootka? If you ask that famous question, What happened to Jimmy Hoffa? I could answer with this book: Grootka knows, he just never told anybody. But he did leave some notebooks for his reluctant protege, Fang Mulheisen. This also happens to be a book about Detroit jazz, one of the great centers of that marvelous American music.
