About the Author:

Richard Kern's work has been the subject of several exhibitions throughout the world. His work appears regularly in Index, Teme Celeste (Italy), Blind Spot; and Purple (France). Kern has also shot numerous book and album covers, and has directed music videos and short films.
matthew higgs is a curator of art and design at the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art in San Francisco and associate director of exhibitions at London's Institute of Contemporary Art. He is also a contributing writer for ArtForum.
