Almost all the storytellers of this collection of life experiences ended up going on an Alpha course to find out just who Jesus was and whether God was really out there. Each of the stories was chosen because they were considered both to be trustworthy accounts and "unusual enough" to encourage the reader to believe that God really is at work in people's lives in amazing ways. Some of the stories generate such a sense of incredulity that the possibility of coincidence is never considered: one English girl who went to work with street kids in Rio de Janeiro encountered a boy whose face was so severely lacerated by a knife that he needed treatment immediately. When he refused to go to hospital she ended up praying for him. "Five days later I saw Anderson again and I couldn¹t believe it. You couldn't even see where his ear had been cut, and all the flesh from his deep cuts had just risen totally and been healed."

These stories deal with all aspects of life, love, death and hardship, often by people living in extreme circumstances.
