For the Child, Play Provides a Prime Medium for Positive Interaction with the surrounding world and the discovery of pleasure. However, participation in this formative activity by children with motor disabilities can be difficult. The Ludic Model introduces a method of occupational therapy for physically restricted children in which play is understood as a privileged medium through which children can be encouraged towards holistic development, while discovering pleasure through their own capacity to act. The model is applicable to a home or therapeutic setting and encourages optimal autonomy while facilitating a satisfying quality of life for the whole family. Using simple examples to transcend common ethnic barriers, The Ludic Model offers a sensitive new ideal for the therapeutic use of play.
