This original study explores the connection between maternal desire and lesbian desire using psychoanalytic theory utilizing the mother-daughter attachment connection. It examines, four Spanish novels and brings a new perspective to the lesbianism experience in two generation of women. This book analyzes four lesbian characters in four Spanish novels: Julia (1968), by Ana Maria Moix, El amor es un juego solitario (1979), by Esther Tusquets, Efectos secundarios (1996), by Luisa Etxenike and Beatriz y los cuerpos celestes (1998), by Lucia Etxebarria. The study examines the relationship between the character's maternal desire experienced during their infancy and their lesbian desire as adults. I analyzed this using the psychoanalytic theory, focusing within the boundaries of the mother-daughter relationship. The Introduction presents lesbian characters in Spanish literature from the 1960's to the 21st century. It also outlines the political and social context of lesbians during the Franco Regime until the democracy. Chapter 1 describes the psychoanalytic theory used for the analysis of the characters, especially the object-relationships theory. In chapters 2 to 5 the theory is applied to study the link between mother desire and lesbian desire in each character: Julia, Clara, Maritxu and Beatriz.
