This guide to careers in anthropology for undergraduates includes 15 practical exercises that help students hone skills such as interviewing, preparing a resume, searching the Internet for career opportunities, and learning to closely read job announcements.
In this short, inexpensive volume, students will find answers to such questions as: What can I do with a major in anthropology? Are there employment opportunities outside academe? What kind of salary am I likely to make as a working anthropologist? How can I get hired?
The text/workbook can be used by students on their own or as part of course assignments, and students at any level of anthropological study will find the exercises useful.
Chapter 3 has been expanded to include capsule biographies of a wide range of practicing anthropologists. Of particular note are three career histories with words of advice from these professionals working outside the university.
Chapter 6 on deciding whether to go to graduate school now includes more specifics on special graduate training as well as a generalized timeline for planning for graduate school.
Two new exercises have been added. "Interpreting the Text" (14) provides three examples of job announcements with annotations and asks students to find and closely read and annotate job announcements that appeal to them. "Know Thyself" (15) asks students to conduct a structured interview with themselves and then corroborate their answers by asking the same questions of another person.
