About the Author

Selma Ottilia Lovisa Lagerlöf (1858 - 1940) was a Swedish author and teacher. She was the first female writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature and is best remembered for her children's book The Wonderful Adventures of Nils. Lagerlof was asked by the National Teacher's Association in 1902 to write a geography book for children. She interestingly combined informative facts of Sweden's geography with a boy named Nils Holgersson. When the boy got in trouble, he traveled to many different provinces, allowing children to learn about Sweden while staying interested. -Wikipedia

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The Miracles of Antichrist is a novel by Selma Lagerlof that explores the themes of faith, power, and deception. The story is set in a small town in Sweden, where a charismatic and mysterious stranger named Antichrist arrives and begins performing miraculous deeds that capture the attention and admiration of the townspeople. However, as Antichrist gains more followers and his influence grows, a few individuals begin to suspect that his powers may not be divine but rather the work of dark forces. The novel follows the perspectives of several characters, including a young woman named Ingmar who is torn between her attraction to Antichrist and her loyalty to her Christian faith, and a wise old man named Bishop who is determined to expose Antichrist's true nature. As the story unfolds, the characters are forced to confront their own beliefs and values, and the town is plunged into a battle between good and evil. Lagerlof's writing is known for its vivid descriptions and allegorical elements, and The Miracles of Antichrist is no exception. The novel is a thought-provoking exploration of the nature of faith and the dangers of blind devotion, and it remains a classic of Swedish literature.1899. During the day just completed his councilors had asked the emperor if they might not raise a temple to him on Rome's holy mountain. But Augustus had not immediately given his consent. He did not know if it would be pleasing to the gods for him to possess a temple next to theirs, and he had answered that he wished first to discover by a nocturnal sacrifice to his genius what their wishes were. Followed by a few faithful retainers, he was now on his way to perform that sacrifice. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
