The idea that child and adolescent patients exist in a social context that cannot be ignored is a theme reinforced throughout this book. Another theme is that the treatment of this population requires special flexibility and creativity, springing from a carefully laid foundation of fundamental tenets of psychodynamic treatment. Valuable material is provided about treating children of aggressively upwardly mobile parents who are busy, uninvolved, and have excessively high expectations.
